It is always difficult to talk about oneself and more to write about oneself. Also, I leave the “keyboard” to Sandrine Bielecki who wrote this bio. By the way I thank her.
Born in 1966 in Marseille, Sanguy Olivier is both a journalist specializing in space and a self-taught painter. Today chief editor of an online media on space, nothing in his career has come forward as a clear straight leading to journalism and / or painting.
First passion: cinema. This is surely why he started law school before embarking on corporate films production. After selling his video equipment, it forks sharply to journalism. To further confuse further tracks, it borrows alternative routes which lead him to speaking either as a public speaker or as a columnist radio and TV. In terms of personal creation, it is not either highway. He made his first cartoons on the school benches. He will not respond. Then he painted his first figurative painting in the early 1980s that it be known as Stellar Eclipse stellar; it will rank without the suite also. Much later, it is a “starter kit” received a gift at Christmas 2014, which will inspire him to try again on another canvas than the daily web. The abstract becomes the way he chooses to follow, encouraged by the enthusiastic feedback he gets on Facebook after his first posts. It starts with small sizes and increases surfaces.
Acrylic, gel, granitas, knives and brushes, these are the weapons with which he attacks the canvas flat on the dining room table. In this configuration, he can both mix colors directly on the table and turn around to better understand it. If the frequency it gives to his art is irregular, it is always the same motivation that inspires: “Finally the common point between a painting, to direct a film, write an article or host a conference is that we give something of oneself to others” he likes to say. “And with the abstract, the subtle pleasure is that the storytelling is made by those who look the painting, not told by the author” he added.
The titles of his paintings are in English because they seem him more fluid and less pompous than in French. He signs Zyt in honor of his late French mother born in Morocco that called him by the nickname Zitoune shortened to Zit or Zyt. Zitoune means Olivier in Arab.
